Greg Epstein is an American writer and humanist chaplain. He has served as the humanist chaplain at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he works with students and staff who live without belief in a god. He is also an ordained rabbi through the Society for Humanistic Judaism. His first book, Good Without God (2009), argued that people can build ethical lives and communities without religion, and it became a New York Times bestseller. He followed it with Just Add Water, a collection of humanist reflections, and then with Tech Agnostic (2024, MIT Press), which treats the technology industry as a belief system in need of reform. Epstein writes and speaks on secular humanism, ethics and technology for general readers, and his work has appeared in outlets such as Politico. He is a public voice on how nonreligious communities organize and on how Silicon Valley shapes values.
