Jeanette Winterson won the Whitbread First Novel Award for "Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit," an autobiographical account of growing up evangelical and gay. The British author has written experimental fiction that plays with form, fairy tale, and gender. "Frankissstein" was longlisted for the 2019 Booker Prize. Winterson's work insists on the power of storytelling to remake identity and reality.
