Lulu Miller is an American journalist, radio producer and author. She worked for years at NPR and was an early producer at Radiolab, the public radio show about science and ideas. In 2014 she co-created Invisibilia, an NPR podcast about the unseen forces that shape human behavior, and co-hosted it with Alix Spiegel. Her first book, Why Fish Don't Exist (2020), blends memoir, science writing and biography. It follows her search through the life of David Starr Jordan, the naturalist and Stanford president who also promoted eugenics. The book became a New York Times bestseller and drew praise for its warm, conversational voice and its candid handling of Jordan's legacy. Miller also writes essays and fiction and teaches at the University of Oregon's School of Journalism and Communication. Her work is known for turning scientific ideas and personal stories into short, vivid narratives for a general audience.
