Sheridan Le Fanu

Irish · 1814–1873

Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu was an Irish writer of Gothic fiction and mystery novels. His works — particularly Carmilla, Uncle Silas, and the ghost stories collected in In a Glass Darkly — are among the finest supernatural fiction of the Victorian era. He influenced M.R. James, Bram Stoker, and the broader tradition of English ghost stories.
